Steroids Trafficking

In Victoria, the trafficking of Steroids can result in being charged with the following:

  • ‘Trafficking a Drug of Dependence’ under s 71AC or s 71AB of the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981 (the Act); or
  • ‘Trafficking in a Drug or Drugs of Dependence – Commercial Quantity’ under s 71AA of the Act; or
  • ‘Trafficking in a Drug or Drugs of Dependence – Large Commercial Quantity’ under s 71 of the Act.

The appropriate charge will depend on the quantity of steroids a person is accused of trafficking and to whom the accused is trafficking the steroids.

Trafficking in a Drug of Dependence

Trafficking in a drug of dependence is an offence under s 71AC of the Act.

This charge has a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment. If a person trafficks or attempts to traffick a drug of dependence at a school or in a public place within 500 metres of a school, the maximum penalty is 20 years imprisonment.

Trafficking in a drug of dependence to a child is an offence under s 71AB of the Act.

This charge has a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment. If a person trafficks or attempts to traffick a drug of dependence to a child at a school or in a public place within 500 metres of a school, the maximum penalty is 25 years imprisonment.

Trafficking a drug or drugs of dependence – commercial quantity is an offence under s 71AA of the act.

This charge has a maximum penalty of 25 years imprisonment.

Trafficking a drug or drugs of dependence – large commercial quantity is an offence under s 71 of the Act.

This charge has a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and, in addition to imprisonment, to a maximum fine of $792,850.
