MAGISTRATES – power to make directions
A very useful section to bear in mind in the Magistrates Court.
If you can find no other specific section to justify your submission this one gives the Magistrate an enormous amount of scope.
s 136 MAGISTRATES’ COURT ACT 1989
The Court may, except where otherwise provided by this or any other Act, at any stage of a proceeding, give any direction for the conduct of the proceeding which it thinks conducive to its effective, complete, prompt and economical determination.
