With over 15 years’ experience and a reputation as a trusted and respected criminal defence lawyer, Una is committed to approaching her clients with respect and understanding. With her clients often experiencing the most stressful period of their lives, Una knows it is vital that they feel they can trust their lawyer to provide accurate advice and act in their best interests.
Una began her career with Lethbridges Barristers and Solicitors. She has worked exclusively in criminal defence since graduating from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts and being admitted to practice.
She is experienced in all manner of summary prosecutions and represents clients in serious indictable matters including complex fraud, drug prosecutions, and homicide. Una appears regularly in the Magistrates’, Children’s, and County Courts in summary and indictable matters at hearings such as pleas of guilty, contest mentions, and committal mentions.
With particular expertise in jury trials in the County and Supreme Courts, Una understands the value of detailed and thorough preparation and is expert in developing case strategy. She also works closely with barristers, including Senior Counsel, to ensure her clients have access to the best advice and representation possible. This is particularly valuable in Una’s appellate practice, where she represents clients in appeals to the County Court, the Court of Appeal, and the High Court of Australia.
A large part of Una’s practice involves defending people charged with sexual offences. She recognises the sensitive and challenging nature of this area of law, and appreciates what is at stake for clients dealing with these charges. She also understands that meticulous preparation and a considered approach are key to defending allegations of sexual offences.
Beyond traditional criminal defence work, Una acts for both applicants and respondents to Family Violence and Personal Safety Intervention Orders, sometimes in conjunction with criminal proceedings. She also regularly assists clients with regulatory matters, including applications to suspend Sex Offender Registration reporting obligations, and making submissions to assist clients to obtain clearances including NDIS and Working With Children Checks.
Una understands that facing criminal or regulatory action is a daunting and stressful experience. She believes that clients are entitled to honest, realistic and clear advice, and takes pride in walking her clients through what is often a challenging legal process.
Una was recognised as a Preeminent Criminal Defence Lawyer (2026) by Doyle’s Guide, and is a member of the Accredited Criminal Law Specialist Advisory Committee. She is also a mentor with Women in Crime, supporting women practitioners in criminal law.
