Josie came to Doogue + George after working as a Judge’s Associate at the County Court of Victoria for two years. She was admitted to legal practice in November 2020 after completing a Juris Doctor at the University of Melbourne.
During Josie’s time at the court, she worked exclusively in the criminal jurisdiction. She developed an in-depth understanding of court procedures and observed many different criminal matters including pleas, jury trials and appeals from the Magistrates’ Court. She also gained an understanding of the different styles of advocacy, which she brings to her own practice.
Josie took the opportunity to gain as much practical experience as she could during her studies. In July 2017, Josie travelled to New Delhi, India where she volunteered for the Human Rights Law Network. This experience was eye opening and required her to conduct field work in challenging conditions. This work demonstrated to her the importance of access to legal representation for all people. She has also done work experience with Victoria Legal Aid, Refugee Legal and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.
Josie understands that facing criminal charges and going to court is a stressful time for her clients. She works through these issues with her clients, talking through concerns they may have and always aims to provide accurate and realistic legal advice.
