Annamiek Van Loon
Annamiek is based at our Sunshine office and regularly appears at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court as well as Magistrate’s Court around Melbourne and Victoria.
Annamiek was admitted to practice in February 2017 after completing the Juris Doctor (JD) at University of Melbourne and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP) at Australian National University.
Annamiek was first compelled to a career in criminal law after a high school excursion to Barwon Prison. Upon completing year 12, she commenced working for (now Magistrate) Michael McNamara, an Accredited Criminal Law Specialist, at McNamaras Barristers & Solicitors, working on a high volume of crime files on a daily basis. During her nine years of employment at McNamaras, Annamiek completed an Arts Degree (majoring in Criminology), her JD and GDLP. Also during this time, she interned for Victoria Legal Aid, the Criminal Law Section at the Law Institute of Victoria, and volunteered at the Moonee Valley Legal Service.
Prior to joining Doogue + George, Annamiek was Associate to a Judge at the County Court of Victoria. Her Judge presided solely over criminal matters; giving her exposure to a vast array of criminal charges and hearings.
Annamiek prides herself on listening to her clients, understanding their story and circumstances and using this information to advocate for the best possible outcome. She understands how reassuring and comforting it is for clients to be represented by a competent and knowledgeable lawyer and prides herself on putting her client’s minds at ease.
