Annamiek Van Loon

Annamiek Van Loon is a Senior Associate based at our Melbourne office and appears in Court on a daily basis. Annamiek has achieved excellent outcomes for clients charged with both indictable and summary offences in both contested / trial matters and guilty pleas. She also has extensive experience representing applicants and respondents of Intervention Orders.

Annamiek was admitted to practice in 2017 and has criminal law experience dating back to 2008. She performs her work with genuine care for her clients who benefit from her knowledge, skill and professionalism.

Annamiek’s file load is varied and her skillset and experience are vast – she has successfully represented clients facing summary charges, indictable charges (as well as a combination of both), Intervention Orders, Bail Applications, Appeals and Firearms Applications. Annamiek is particularly interested in sexual and/or violence allegations, drug matters, financial related offending and driving matters.

Since joining Doogue + George, she has appeared in hundreds of hearings across Victorian courts and has also assisted clients by preparing submissions to bodies such as the Working with Children’s Check Commission, Victoria Police (Sex Offender Register exemption applications) and the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission.

Annamiek has extensive and varied criminal law experience. Prior to joining Doogue + George, Annamiek was an Associate to a Judge at the County Court of Victoria. Her Judge presided over criminal matters only. This gave her exposure to a vast array of criminal charges and hearings. Before working at the County Court, Annamiek worked for a criminal lawyer for nine years. She has also interned for Victoria Legal Aid, the Criminal Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria, and volunteered at the Moonee Valley Legal Service for several years.

Annamiek prides herself on communication, mapping out possible outcomes for clients and working towards achieving the best possible outcome. The benefit that Annamiek offers her clients is that she takes the time to carefully listen to their instructions and devise a strategy tailored to their individual needs. She completed the Juris Doctor (JD) and a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Criminology) at the University of Melbourne, and the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP) at the Australian National University.
