Theft, Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal

The accused, in company with 3 other teenagers, had stolen a cat and then strung it up on a bridge until it died. In the Children’s Court, the accused was sentenced to 4 months detention in a Youth Training Centre. He was bailed pending his appeal.

We represented the client during the appeal at the Melbourne County Court. The charges he faced were:

  • Theft
  • Aggravated cruelty to an animal

The appeal was successful, and the accused was re-sentenced, without conviction, to a probation order for 6 months.
