Defendant With Extensive Criminal History – Theft, Burglary, Breaching Parole
Our client has a very extensive criminal history. He had 51 pages of priors all for property-related offences. His latest case involved charges of Burglary, Theft, as well as Breach of Parole – committed days after being released on parole. As per facts of the case, he allegedly went into a shop and pinched some bags belonging to staff members.
Doogue + George represented the client at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court.
We made submissions about the client’s institutionalisation and the recent changes in his life, especially as he had reconnected with his daughter. We were able to obtain character references to effectively support our submissions.
The client entered a plea of guilty to all charges. After hearing the submissions, the Magistrate imposed a 3-month term of imprisonment. This may not seem a good result but, given that it was a case of a defendant with extensive criminal history, the outcome was much better than expected.
