Barrister & Solicitor
Speciality
- Criminal Law
Paul McClure appears on a daily basis in the Magistrates', County and Children's Courts in Victoria in pleas of not guilty/contested hearings, bail applications, committal hearings, appeals, driver licence restoration hearings and pleas of guilty. He has also had a lot of experience instructing barristers appearing for his clients in trials at the County and Supreme Courts and acts as an advocate in all Victorian Courts including Children’s Court, Magistrates’ Court, County and Supreme Courts.
As a solicitor, Paul has gained particular experience acting for clients charged with sexual offences, as well as acting for clients with psychiatric or psychological conditions, and intellectual disabilities. He is well respected by his clients and amongst his peers, both solicitors and barristers, who view him as a dedicated advocate. Paul also works as a volunteer solicitor at the Broadmeadows Community Legal Centre.
Prior to coming to the law, Paul was a registered nurse for 12 years in the area of intensive care nursing (predominantly at Alfred Hospital Road Trauma Intensive Care Unit), bringing with him a wealth of knowledge to legal practice. Paul’s interest in the law was piqued during his time as a nurse, and he decided to return to study to fulfill a desire to become a criminal defence lawyer. Paul studied law part-time at Monash University, while still workin as a nurse, completing his Juris Doctor in 2004. For a time he was the face of the Monash Postgraduate Degree Program. While studying, Paul also worked voluntarily as part of the administrative staff at the Mental Health Legal Service.
Paul also has a keen interest in psychology, and has an undergraduate degree in that field. Paul has been a member of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) since before his admission as a lawyer, and is a member of the Young Lawyers section of the LIV.
Outside of work, Paul enjoys learning Greek, reading, travelling and digital photography.
