Criminal Penalties - Detention in Youth Residential Centre/Youth Training Centre

BlackMenuBar.jpg, 340B

If you are under 21 you can be sentenced to a Youth Training Centre (YTC) or a Youth Residential Centre (for the younger kids).  This is even though you can only be charged and go to the Children's Court if you commit an offence when under the age of 18.

The reason for older youths being allowed to be sentenced to YTC is that the Sentencing Act defines ayoung offender as someone under 21.

The aim of a YTC is generally the rehabilitation of a young person.

To ensure that you receive the lowest possible penalty, contact Doogue & O'Brien on 03 9670 5111.
